If you knew there was nothing in the universe designed to harm us, what would you do with your life?

“A completely integrated person is one who has learned to meet everything as it comes along and make the best of it… This is done by knowing there is nothing to be afraid of, that we are One with an infinite partner, and there is nothing in the universe designed to harm us.” Ernest Holmes

Recently I have been thinking a lot about accepting things as they are. There are two sides to this. On the one hand if we are too complacent and don’t care what happens life will pass us by. On the other hand if we try to control everything and obsess over things we will make ourselves crazy. There has to be a balance between these two extremes.

If we view life as a journey (I know that’s corny but stick with me) the only thing that can harm us is death, everything else is a lesson or a chance to grow. We have to have plans and goals, while at the same time understand things aren’t going to go exactly as we plan. By allowing things to be, and reacting to them as they are, we become one with an infinite partner.

If we adopt the mindset that nothing in the universe is designed to harm us and everything is an opportunity to grow we become more confident and fearless. We start to welcome new experiences and don’t shy away from pain or hard work.

We are not deceiving ourselves into believing everything will be nice and easy. Instead we are prepared for whatever life brings because we know nothing can hurt us.
